April is almost over, but that doesn’t mean spring is over, too. As vacation season draws in, you won’t always be home to tend to your landscape. Make sure your energy bills stay reasonable while you’re gone! Save energy with plug-in timers for your Kingsville landscape. Here at Lehnhoff’s Landscaping, we can offer you premium outdoor landscape lighting and assorted accessories, such as plug-in timers.

How Do You Choose Plug-In Timers?

Once you’ve decided to use plug-in timers, the first step is the choose the right one. So how do you go about choosing a plug-in timer? First, consider its purpose – what do you need it for? While you could easily use a plug-in timer inside your home, it will work differently when you set it up for outdoor use.

You will know which one is which, because outdoor plug-in timers will have their packaging clearly marked. The most important factor to take into account is how watertight the seal around the timer is. The integrity of the seal is important, especially if you want to set lights around a pond or other water feature. You will also want to be sure the mechanical or digital display of the outdoor light is properly protected.

How Do You Use Plug-In Timers?

Plug in timers are easy to use. Often, all you need to is plug it into an available outlet or socket. You might have to deploy power strips, plug multipliers, or surge protectors to extend the reach of the timer power cords. Make sure everything is insulated and safe to use; damaged wires, frayed cords, or other electrical components could pose hazards if not properly attended to when they need to be.

You should also be sure to use plug-in timers in concert with other lighting fixtures and accessories. Because of variable length of night and day cycles as the seasons change, timers for outdoor lighting should not be used alone. Photosensors are helpful for this part, as after dark they could switch on the lights, and them by a certain time, say around 11 pm, the timer could switch the lights off again.
