Outdoor Lighting Tips to use this Fall

These are some of the most important tips for your outdoor lighting during the fall.

A home with great outdoor lighting is much safer than one left in the dark. It can also be what you need if you want to make your house more appealing. Usually, when people think about outdoor renovations in the spring and summer, when the lawn starts turning that vibrant green color, but fall is another great time to invest in your home’s exterior. These are some of the most important tips for your outdoor lighting during the fall.

Don’t Light your Garden too Much

We understand that you want to keep your home well lit, especially since the days are now shorter. However, that doesn’t mean you have to go overboard with your outdoor lighting. An overwhelming amount of outdoor light can cause disturbances inside your house, as well as your neighbors’ houses. Keeping your home protected is perfectly fine, but protect your eyes from light that would be too intense.

Positioning is Crucial

The coloring and positioning of your outdoor lighting play a monumental role in your lighting scheme. Take the angling into consideration. An example would be with path lights. These lights are best pointed away from your home. You also want to think about what color you want for your lights and be careful not to go overboard.

Create Drama Using Pockets of Light and Shadow

Outdoor lighting does more than provide your home with safety; it can also be used for dramatic effect. Some people think that simply using more lights creates drama, but “the more, the better” isn’t always the best idea. Instead, use pockets of light and shadow to bring that dramatic flare. If you place your lights close to the surface, you can better define outdoor features of your landscape and give yourself a depth of field.

Stick with Halogen Light on the Ground

While fall isn’t over yet, we’re getting ever closer to winter. During that time, especially during snowy months, lighting can get masked or muted. Having LEDs on the ground while it’s snowing won’t let you enjoy the benefits of having outdoor lighting. Instead, get your LEDs up somewhere higher and leave your halogens on the ground if you want to maximize your enjoyment of having outdoor lighting.
