What Can I Do If My Yard is Sloped?

Not everyone has the privilege of owning a perfectly flat piece of property. While a flat yard can make certain things easier such as landscaping and making your yard look asthetically pleasing, just because you have a yard on a slope or a hill that doesn’t mean you have to rule out the backyard oasis you have always dreamed of. Here at Lehnhoff’s Landscaping in Maryland, we are here to help you design the backyard of your dreams even if your yard is sloped.

While designing on a sloped yard can be a little more difficult than a primarily flat yard, the right plants can make all of the difference.

Some design ideas for a sloped yard:

  • Slope-holding plants – certain plants such as the Golden ‘Stella de Oro’ daylily, pink-flowering Spiraea japonica ‘Shirobana’, and yellow cinquefoil groundcover provide texture and firmness with their roots to help control erosion. This is helpful because it prevents the soil from all collecting at the bottom of the slope.
  • Paving that permeates – if you pave any part of your yard on a gravel base with spaces, it will allow rainfall to seep into your soil. This will help provide nourishment for the soil as well as prevent a pond of water runoff to appear at the base of the slope.

There are more tips and tricks to keep your yard looking great regardless of a slope it may have. So what are you waiting for? Let Lehnhoff’s Landscaping in Baltimore, Maryland help you design the yard of your dreams.
