Don't let these little guys ruin your summer!

Mosquitoes are coming and you can fight them using clever landscaping. After all, who wants their perfect afternoon ruined by getting bitten by a ton of little pests? No one does. So, if you’re trying to enjoy your summer in the sun, then the time has come to protect your family and your yard using some landscaping. Let’s see what you can do.

Plants you Can Have Planted

When you need some help keeping the bugs at bay, there are some plants that can help you out. These plants will provide a completely natural deterrent for little pests in your yard. Think about where you want to hang out when the weather is nice and plant accordingly. If you have a pool, then you might want to plant some of them near your water. Now, the plants that you will want to incorporate into your next landscaping project are as follows:

  1. Citronella: This plant is one of the most common ingredients in mosquito repellant, so adding a few of these into your landscaping project is sure to help. They smell rather nice too.
  2. Catnip: All you cat lovers out there will appreciate this one. Catnip and catnip oil are both helpful in keeping mosquitoes at bay. If you’re looking for a natural alternative to conventional bug spray, then this is a great solution. Give it a shot!
  3. Marigolds : These annuals aren’t for everyone due to their strong smell, but that’s exactly what is going to keep your yard mosquito-free.
  4. Horsemint: This little perennial has a strong odor that will mask your scent from little mosquitoes.

Why Natural is Best

When you try using bud sprays on your yard or your clothes you are exposing yourself to potentially harmful chemicals. These chemicals can cause long lasting health problems if they are used on your skin or the skin of your pets. When you use traditional bug spray you are running the risk of poisoning your pets. This may seem kind of extreme to say, but it’s true. Using natural deterrents are completely safe for you, your family, and your pets. You don’t have to worry about whether or not the company is eco-friendly because what could be more eco-friendly than plants? Make the safe choice and use landscaping to deter mosquitoes.
