Low-Voltage Lighting Tips for the Fall

Low-Voltage Lighting Tips for the Fall

With the heavier reliance on outdoor lighting during the fall, here are some cost effective low-voltage lighting tips to help you and hopefully keep your energy bills from skyrocketing.

The days are getting shorter, and the darkness is creeping in – fall has definitely arrived! Fairly soon, many of our daily activities will start happening before and after sunset. Getting up when it’s dark and coming home when it’s dark is not the most exciting aspect of the fall. It’s not the safest one either when it comes to visibility and potential accidents. We’ll find ourselves relying heavily on outdoor lighting to get us from point A to point B during the coming months. And while we still have some time to enjoy the diminishing daylight, it’s a good idea to make sure your lighting is in order. With the heavier reliance on outdoor lighting during the fall, here are some cost effective low-voltage lighting tips to help you and hopefully keep your energy bills from skyrocketing.

Light Up Your Path

When fall is in full force, the excess of frost patches and drastic increase in rainfall can play havoc with your steps and walkways, if not properly illuminated. Choose lights that are tall enough to accommodate an average snowfall and keep in mind that the bottom third of the base will be inserted into the ground. LED string lighting is durable and a reliable low voltage option, as well as being the best choice for safety. Installation effort is minimal, as the lights are strung around the outside as opposed to nailing sconces into the wall or setting light-posts into the ground. Be sure to consider those options, though, when lighting any specific areas outside to prevent any accidental tumbles.

Create an Atmosphere

We might not spend as much time outdoors during the fall as we do in summer, but there are probably a few entertainment spots around your home you want to keep well lit – your deck being a prime example. It is also a fabulous time to get your creative juices flowing and incorporate your own design with some exterior lighting. Illuminate your landscape with inexpensive, low voltage string lights to play up the atmosphere and create a comfortable, warm environment for you and your loved ones. You can even buy string lights that emit light in shapes and patterns for the various holidays of the fall season!
