Easy Summer Landscaping Projects

Define lines and give your garden the glow it deserves this summer.

Summer is the perfect time of year to transform your yard into the home paradise you’ve always dreamed of. Not sure where to start? Here are a few easy landscaping ideas to spruce up your garden and greenery.

Mulch Makeover

Liven up flowerbeds and the areas surrounding trees with fresh mulch. Homeowners often overlook the need for a fresh mulching, but it’s actually a simple way to give your yard a fresh, clean look. A new layer of mulch will also help suppress weeds, retain moisture and moderate soil temperature. When adding new mulch make sure to strip off much of the initial layer in order to avoid over mulching. Excessive mulching can cause rot and insect invasion. You can buy mulch cheaply in bulk, and can also avoid installation hassles with a professional landscaper.

Define Lines

You can boost your landscape’s aesthetic appeal by shoring up flower beds, tree lines and other landscaping elements. Using a shovel or sharp tool, cut into the lawn surrounding your flower bed or tree about six inches. You can leave the edge alone or fill it with brick or stone for a cleaner look.

Plant a Tree

Although you won’t reap the benefits right away, planting a tree is an easy and rewarding project. A large tree will offer your summer home a new shaded spot so you can cool off without investing in costly energy. Plant an evergreen tree to avoid turning your lawn into a carpet of leaves in the fall.

Grow Vegetables

A vegetable garden is a great way to teach your kids about the economy of the earth. It could also save you a few trips to the grocery store. Vegetable gardens strike a perfect balance between beauty and function. If you like to cook, having fresh tomatoes or peppers on hand is both convenient and rewarding.

Light It Up

Summer nights are great for stargazing or enjoying an evening drink on the patio with your neighbors. Landscape lighting can help showcase your home’s natural beauty at night, and there are a lot of great options to choose from. Strategically place string lights, lanterns, or bug repellent candles to give your yard a fresh glow. Remember, if you work all day you’ll never experience the natural beauty of your yard if it isn’t lit up properly at night!
